Downdraft extractors are designed to move harmful gases and particles away from the operator's breathing zone. Like downdraft hoods that draw steam and cooking odors away from your kitchen, they are designed to remove metal fumes, ensuring a safe working environment. Downdraft extractors often include tables with perforations to allow the welder to work on small to medium pieces easily.

By pulling toxic fumes downwards, the operator is protected from exposure to the gases and fumes that result during welding activities. Prolonged exposure to metal fumes and other harmful substances released during welding activities has the potential to cause serious health problems, such as lung damage and even cancer.

Unlike a downdraft hood that uses an extractor fan to remove cooking smells, the Fume Dog Downdraft Table Fume Extractor uses suction to draw fumes downward. Before returning the clean air to the environment, the gases are first sent through a filtration system to eliminate impurities.
